Dear Parents,

Your child has probably mentioned to you that “Mr. Hagen” is in our classroom. Mr. Hagen is taking the teaching assistant program at SIAST, and is doing an internship in our classroom for 6 weeks. It has been wonderful to have an extra set of hands when we are doing big projects, and some of the children are spending extra time practicing their sight words and reading with him as well.

I am so pleased that all of the children have finished reading 100 books for our “ Reading Road ” contest. The class will be receiving a reward soon! You will notice from the letter in your child's backpack that another reading contest, sponsored by our librarian, Ms. Arndt, is beginning today. This is a school-wide contest. Instead of writing down the books, you just have to record how many minutes you spend reading together each day, total them up at the end of the week, and return the paper on Friday. Each week, you will receive a new paper to record that week's reading. All the time that your child spends reading counts toward this prize, whether you are reading to your child or your child is reading to you. The children are anxious for our class to win the prize for the school, so please help us out with this! The papers should be returned on Fridays.

Some things do discuss:

  1. How did we copy Eric Carle's picture to make one of our own?
  2. The book Sometimes It Looked Like Spilt Milk
  3. What did Constable Pillsworth talk to us about?
  4. Estimate how many tablespoons of water it will take to fill a glass, and then try filling the glass to check your estimate.
  5. Which of our plants is growing the fastest? How long is the root? How long is the part above the ground?
  6. How are we helping to look after the pheasant eggs?
  7. Name three things that are taller than you and four things that are shorter than you.
  8. The story I Know How to Fight Germs .
