Assignment 4: Catalyst Research

This assignment is also available in the following fomats:  Word | RTF | PDF

This assignment will require you to do some research, either using textbooks or the Internet. Long, formal essays are not required or desired – point form should be used! No more than one-half page per topic.

You MUST provide the source of your information (textbook, Internet web site, etc.) Use proper bibliographic format for listing this information. This link shows you how to cite resources you get from the Internet.

One source of information will be sufficient for each topic; I prefer to see a different source for each topic.

  1. What is a catalytic converter? Where would you find one? What is its purpose? What reaction or reactions are catalyzed, and what is the catalyst?
  2. Find at least one other use of catalysts in an industrial process. Provide a paragraph or two of information about its use – what reaction is being catalyzed? what is the catalyst? What industry is it used in? How is it economically important?
  3. What are enzymes? Where would you find them? What are their functions? Give a specific example.
